ABOUT THE COVID-19 STUDY FOR PATIENTS AT INCREASED RISK OF WORSENING SYMPTOMS

This study is evaluating the safety and effectiveness of a possible oral treatment for COVID-19. If you have recently been diagnosed with COVID-19, participation can be an option to consider not only for yourself, but as an important contribution to the global effort to move beyond COVID-19.

Who May Participate

Joining a clinical trial is an important and personal decision. Thank you for considering this study.

This study may be an option for you if you are at least 18 years old and meet all the requirements below:

  • You have tested positive for COVID-19 in the last 5 days and have not tested positive previously.
  • You have recently developed symptom(s) of COVID-19.

What to Expect

This study involves comparing an investigational (study) drug against a placebo (tablet with no active ingredient). Placebos are an important part of the clinical research process by providing researchers with a point of comparison to know if a study drug is safe and effective. We learn about the effectiveness and safety of the study drug by comparing the experiences of the participants who receive the study drug to those who receive the placebo. In addition to the study drug or placebo, all participants will receive treatment for COVID-19 that your doctor recommends.

Your participation in the study will last about 6 months. Here’s how the study will work:

A computer will randomly assign you to receive either the study drug or placebo. Neither you nor the study doctor will know if you are receiving the study drug or placebo. Half of the study participants will receive the study drug, and the other half will receive the placebo.

You will take the first dose on the same day you enter the study. You will then take the following 9 doses at home twice daily over 5 days, for a total of 10 doses.

You will have a total of 10 study visits during your participation with the study team or by telemedicine (over the telephone or computer). You will also be asked to track any changes in your health in an electronic diary (e-diary).
